Changes to Platform Fee for Ride-hailing Services

New Rates to Kick in from January 1, 2025

From January 1, 2025, the platform fees for ride-hailing services in Singapore will be adjusted. ComfortDelGro, the largest taxi operator in Singapore, has announced that the platform fee on its app, Zig, will be increased by S$0.30 to S$0.50. This change will affect rides booked through the Zig, DBS PayLah!, and Kris+ apps.

Enhanced Protection and Welfare Initiatives

The increased platform fee will go towards enhancing protection and welfare initiatives as part of the new Platform Workers Bill. Tommy Tan, Chief Executive of ComfortDelGro Taxi, stated that this adjustment is in addition to the company’s annual investment of S$5.5 million in driver welfare and incentive schemes to build a more supportive ecosystem for drivers.

Platform Workers Bill

The Platform Workers Bill was introduced in Parliament in August this year and is expected to kick in from January 1. The new law aims to provide more labour protection for private-hire car drivers, taxi drivers, and delivery workers who rely on online matching platforms for their work.

Rise in Platform Fees

Other ride-hailing operators, such as Gojek and Tada, will also be increasing their platform fees from January 1. Gojek will increase its platform fee by S$0.30 to S$0.50 per trip, while Tada will raise its platform fee by S$0.50.

Conclusion

The changes to the platform fee are expected to have a significant impact on the ride-hailing industry in Singapore. With the new Platform Workers Bill set to take effect, the industry is likely to see a shift towards greater protection and welfare for platform workers.
